RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “This rise in prices due to global economic recovery was decisive for the record of the month, since there was a drop of 4.1% in the quantum index of Brazilian exports,” the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.
The main export product, soy posted a record US$5.30 billion (+23.4%) in revenue, despite a reduction of 12.9% in the exported volume of 11.1 million tons.
The Ministry also highlighted the meat sector’s performance whose exports yielded US$1.78 billion in June (+26.6%). “The increase in value occurred due to the increase in the volume exported (+9.4%) as to the average increase in the export price (+15.7%).”
The main animal protein exported was beef, with records of US$834.24 million (+12.7%). However, volume fell 6.7%, to 164,000 tons.
In relation to chicken meat, export revenue rose 45.8% to US$636.26 million and 16.1% in volume, to 385,000 tons.
Pork hit a record, with foreign sales totaling US$268.31 million (+36.4%). The exported quantity was also a historical maximum, with 107,200 tons (+12.9%).
The Ministry also reported that agribusiness imports posted an increase of 54.2%, reaching US$1.28 billion. Thus, the agribusiness trade balance reached US$10.8 billion.
