Congress creates Parliamentary Front against “Brazil Cost”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s Congress on Wednesday, June 30, will establish the Parliamentary Front for a Competitive Brazil (FPBC), with over 200 members among senators and legislators.

The Front will work to reduce the so-called “Brazil Cost” and has as its priorities tax and administrative reforms. The launch will occur at 11 AM, at the National Confederation of Industry (CNI).

“The strategy is to join forces to improve the business environment and to enable Brazilian companies to compete on an equal footing with international competitors,” CNI said in a statement.

The Front will be chaired by federal deputy Alexis Fonteyne (Novo-SP) who argues that Congress should play a key role in the development of the structural reform agenda.

“The recent moves to open the economy by the federal government render this agenda even more pressing and this time it cannot be deferred. We need to prevent the flight of companies and investments and boost the development of competitiveness, providing conditions for the national productive sector to be able to compete with its global competitors,” Fonteyne said.
