Tourism up in July vacations; Gramado most popular destination in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – After enduring a lean 2020, tourism in Brazil is rehearsing the return to a scenario close to pre-pandemic times. A survey conducted by Decolar travel platform shows that the July vacations breathed new life into the sector.

The most sought-after destination for the period is Gramado, in the Rio Grande do Sul mountains, with a 28% increase over the same period in 2019.

Second and third are Rio de Janeiro and Maceió. Despite figuring in the ranking with a respective 18% and 84% increase in demand compared to 2020, the capital cities did not perform favorably compared to 2019. Both dropped -56% and -41%, respectively.

Conversely, Maragogi in Alagoas appears with significant growth in demand: an increase of 92% compared to 2019.

“The sector’s recovery should be responsible and gradual and will not necessarily occur in a straight line, there may be ups and downs, depending on the health situation of destinations and the vaccination process,” says Alexandre Moshe, CEO of Decolar.

The survey was based on reservations from January to June 12 for check-in in July, according to information from Decolar’s sales channels (website and app).
