Covid-19 vaccine shortage in 1/3 of São Paulo city posts on Monday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Over 30% of Covid-19 vaccination posts in the city of São Paulo are not working this Monday, June 21, according to data released on the “De Olho da Fila” platform developed by the city hall to report the lines situation in each location.

On social networks, residents of the North and East zones, the most affected by the shortage, report that the unavailability of doses has been occurring since Saturday, June 19. In a statement, the city government says that “there was a timely supply shortage,” but that the “reallocation is underway.”

Of the 477 posts, 155 are listed with the description “Not operating” on Monday, corresponding to 32% of the total.

The situation is more serious in the North Zone, where 44 of the 91 vaccination posts are inoperative, equivalent to 48% of the total. In a number of districts, like Perus and Jaçanã, no vaccination station is in operation.

The South zone is the second most affected region, with 40% of vaccination posts closed. A total of 63 posts are not operating, out of a total of 156 addresses.

In Jardim Ângela, a district in the South Zone with the lowest life expectancy in São Paulo, according to the 2020 Inequality Map, 15 out of 18 posts are not operating.

The East Zone has also been affected, with 25% of posts closed. In the West and Center regions all posts are operating this Monday, according to the city hall platform.

Vaccination calendar in São Paulo

The São Paulo City Hall on Monday and Tuesday, June 21 and 22, begins the rescheduling of Covid vaccination for the 50 to 59 year old group that has not yet been immunized.

Next Wednesday, June 23, the capital will again advance in the calendar and begin vaccination of people aged 48 and 49.

The phasing by age was determined by the municipal management last week, and aims to prevent crowds in posts and ensure availability to all, as the state is also gradually transferring the doses it receives from the Ministry of Health.

The “leftover” line

Adults over 18 years of age, with no comorbidities, may register in the “leftover” Covid-19 vaccine list at Basic Health Units (BHU) in the city of São Paulo, according to the city hall’s instructive released last week.

Nursing mothers with children up to 2 years of age will be prioritized in the line. When called for immunization, they must present the child’s birth certificate and a personal document proving that they are the child’s mother.

Eligible for the list::

Health academics in internship, irrespective of training time in professional categories;
Students in the Health technical area in training, irrespective of training period in professional categories;
People over 18 years of age;
Nursing mothers with children up to 2 years of age will be prioritized in the line – they must present their child’s birth certificate and a personal document proving that they are the child’s mother.
