Social media and news websites disrupted

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Multiple Internet outages affected social media and news websites worldwide on Tuesday, June 8, with reports pointing to a glitch with U.S.-based Fastly cloud computing service.

Fastly said it is investigating “the potential impact to service performance,” according to the company’s website, which said most of its coverage areas were experiencing “degraded performance.”

Separately, Amazon.com’s retail website also seemed to be down. Amazon was not immediately available for comment.

Nearly 21,000 Reddit users reported issues with the social media platform, while more than 2,000 users reported problems with Amazon, reported Downdetector.com, the website that monitors Internet outages.

Twitch, which is owned by Amazon, also recorded outages, according to Downdetector.

Websites operated by media outlets such as the Financial Times, The Guardian, New York Times, and Bloomberg News also experienced outages.
