Brazil expects to have 43.8 million vaccine doses available in June

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Despite being fewer than the earlier projected 54 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, the number of doses available in June will be the highest monthly amount since the start of the campaign, in January 2021 – 43.8 million of the 3 immunizers approved by the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA).

According to Executive Secretary Rodrigo Cruz, the AstraZeneca vaccine alone will account for almost 25 million dose; there will be 20.9 million from Fiocruz and 4 million from the COVAX Facility, a W.H.O. consortium. These 4 million would have been shipped in July, but the Ministry managed to advance delivery.

There will be 12.8 million UNITS from Pfizer, also shared between the company and the W.H.O. A total of 12 million will be sent by the company, 2.4 million in the first week of June. And there will be 842,000 doses from COVAX. The Butantan Institute will supply 6 million doses.

The Ministry of Health is also attempting to advance the shipment of two batches of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) from AstraZeneca, scheduled for June 20, to the start of the month. Should this happen, the Ministry may be able to deliver the originally promised 54 million doses.
