Brazil’s total exchange flow in the year to May 14 positive at US$12.189 billion – Central Bank

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The foreign exchange flow in the year to May 14 was positive at US$12.189 billion, reported the Central Bank on Wednesday, May 19. In the same period last year, the result was negative by US$10.394 billion.

The net inflow through the financial channels this year until May 14 totaled US$3.028 billion. The result is the difference between US$193.824 billion in inflows and US$190.796 billion in outflows.

The segment includes foreign direct and portfolio investments, profit remittances, and interest payments, among other operations.

In foreign trade, the accumulated annual balance until May 14 was positive in US$9.162 billion, with imports of US$75.075 billion and exports of US$84.237 billion.

Exports include US$11.846 billion in Advances on Exchange Contracts (ACC), US$24.370 billion in Anticipated Payments (PA) and US$ 48.021 billion in other entries.

May

After closing April with net inflows of US$3.990 billion, Brazil recorded a negative foreign exchange flow of US$524 million up to May 14, the Central Bank reported.

The financial channel posted net outflows of US$417 million in the period. This is the result of inflows of US$18.485 billion and withdrawals totaling US$18.902 billion.

In foreign trade, the balance up to May 14 is negative by US$107 million, with imports of US$7.791 billion and exports of US$7.683 billion. Exports include US$1.205 billion in ACC, US$2.274 billion in PA and US$4.204 billion in other entries.

Week

The exchange flow registered last week (from May 10 to 14) for Brazil was positive in US$994 million, reported the Central Bank. The financial channel posted a net inflow of US$707 million in the week, resulting from inflows of US$9.955 billion and outflows of US$9.248 billion.

In foreign trade, the balance last week was positive in US$287 million, with imports of US$3.562 billion and exports of US$3.849 billion. Exports include US$566 million in ACC, US$1.061 billion in PA and US$ 2.222 billion in other entries.
