Brazilians deported by the Biden administration to land in Brazil on Friday, May 21

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The U.S. government, under President Biden, will carry out the first mass deportation of illegal Brazilian immigrants this week, CNN analyst Lourival Sant’Anna has confirmed. There will be 106 Brazilians sent on a flight that will arrive in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, this Friday, May 21.

The deportation measure is similar to those carried out during the Trump administration, whose policy was strictly anti-immigration. During his election campaign, the new U.S. president vowed to address undocumented immigrants in a humanitarian manner.

However, as is traditionally the case in the United States, the immigration issue continues to be one of the main problems the president has to address.

In his first 100 days, Biden halted deportations. He also reversed a number of measures from Donald Trump’s administration being challenged by those who are pro-immigration.

Among the signed decrees is an end to the travel ban on citizens from Muslim countries and a strengthening of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program – Trump pushed to dismantle protections for undocumented immigrants who entered the country as children.

Nevertheless, the Biden administration has been struggling to keep up with the flow of migrants pouring into the United States’ southern border, particularly unaccompanied minors who have been held at border patrol posts while authorities try to find places to accommodate them.
