In addition, Rousseff, president of Brazil between 2011 and 2016, will be named this Wednesday distinguished guest of the metropolis by the head of government of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum.

“On behalf of the Mexican government I extend a warm welcome to the country to former President Dilma Rousseff, who will participate as guest of honor at the ceremony ‘Seven Centuries of History of Mexico City’ in the Templo Mayor,” said in a message on Twitter, the undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) Maximiliano Reyes Zúñiga.

Next Thursday, May 13, the Mexican government, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will commemorate the 700th anniversary of the founding of Tenochtitlan, the Mexican capital now known as Mexico City, as part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of independence and the 500th anniversary of the Spanish conquest.

The former president of Brazil was impeached in 2016 for irregularities in the management of public accounts. Dilma Rousseff, who was replaced by her then vice-president, Michel Temer, continues to classify her dismissal as a “coup d’état”.
