Bolsonaro: Brazil is the “only republic in the world” accepting electronic voting

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro said that Brazil is the “only republic in the world” that accepts the results of elections held with that “crappy electronic vote.” During his weekly live stream on social media, the president reiterated, “This must be changed.”

“If the Brazilian Parliament, by a qualified majority of three-fifths of the House and Senate, passes and enacts it, there will be a printed ballot in 2022 and that’s that,” the president said. “Because if there are no printed ballots, it means that there won’t be any elections. I think the message has been delivered,” said the president.

Bolsonaro also commented on the statements made by Supreme Court (STF) Justice and president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Luís Roberto Barroso, who said recently that printed ballots would create “chaos.”

“He, Barroso, owns the world. It can only be. The man of absolute truth who can’t be challenged,” Bolsonaro said. “I am worried that if Jesus Christ comes down to Earth, He will be Minister Barroso’s boy,” teased the president.

According to Bolsonaro, those who are against the printed ballot “either believe in Santa Claus or are on Barroso’s side, or yet because they know there will be fraud and their party will benefit.”

The president also argued that he respects Article 5 of the Constitution, “voted by the constituent parliamentarians in 1988.” “We must learn to respect it. No matter how much I don’t like some of the Constitution’s provisions, I have to accept them as a whole,” he added.
