Largest auction in history to bring 5G to Brazil – ANATEL president

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Much more than faster internet, 5G technology, which should reach Brazil by the end of the year, will revolutionize the entire society and the means of production.

“It is not just another G, but rather an umbrella that involves and enhances other technologies,” says Leonardo Euler de Moraes, president of the National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL).

According to Moraes, 5G technology will be the driver for other technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, mixed and augmented intelligence. All due to its low latency, which is the time it takes for data to travel. “In the case of 5G, this time is less than the blink of an eye.”

The 5G auction bid notice is at the Federal Audit Court (TCU) for review and should be released by the end of this year. “We are going to release the frequency use rights, which are the paths through which the signals travel,” says the president of ANATEL.

According to him, this will not be a cash-generating auction. Companies will have investment commitments, such as internet coverage on Brazilian roads and in locations which still have no internet at all, because “it is expected that, in 20 years, there will be more than R$40 billion in investments,” he says.
