Jair Bolsonaro: “Time for a new cry of independence in Brazil”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The president said, without going into details, that the time for the “end of the ordeal” would be coming, referring to the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

In the city of Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro said, on Monday morning April 26, that the time is coming “for a new cry of independence in Brazil”.

He made a speech during the inauguration of 22 kilometers of duplication of the BR-101 highway between the Bahia municipalities of Feira de Santana and Esplanada.

“We cannot accept that some pseudo-governors want to impose a dictatorship among you, using the virus to subjugate you,” said Bolsonaro, in reference to the Covid-19 pandemic and some state governors who, against the will of the president, have been trying for months to get the virus under control, with massive isolation and lockdown measures.

The president said that the government has always treated the virus issue very responsibly, but that it has also been very concerned about the unemployment issues.

“It was not the federal government that forced you to stay home. It wasn’t the federal government that shut down commerce and destroyed millions of jobs. You can be sure that this ordeal is coming to an end. We will soon be back to normality,” he added.
