Brazil adds 2,027 deaths and 45,178 cases of Covid-19 in the last day (April 22)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil, one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic, reported on Thursday 2,027 deaths and 45,178 infections by the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the government, whose management of the health crisis was again questioned in an academic study.

Since the beginning of the health crisis, the South American country has accumulated 14,167,973 infected and 383,502 deaths related to the covid-19 virus, according to the Health Ministry bulletin.

Brazil is the country with the second-highest number of deaths associated with the disease, after the United States, and the third with the highest number of positive cases, after the USA and India.

It is the nation that has reported the most deaths due to covid-19 in the last week, with a total of 19,578 deaths, above the 11,534 in India and the 4,986 in the United States, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

This second wave of the pandemic, more virulent and deadlier than the first, has brought the Brazilian public health system to the brink of collapse, with most of the intensive care units overflowing and amid a lack of drugs to keep critically ill patients intubated.
