Instagram and Facebook Messenger apps now integrated in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Cross-platform messaging on Instagram and Messenger is now available in Brazil, Facebook announced on Thursday, April 15th. The convergence was announced in September last year by the media giant, but was not yet available in this country.

The main change is the release of messenger features (Facebook’s messaging app) directly to Instagram (the app’s messaging feature), and with it, the possibility of exchanging messages or making video calls without having to switch apps.

When clicking on Messenger, the message “Introducing Cross-App Messaging” will appear, which invites users to continue or learn more about the change.

The communication gives information about the possibility to search and send messages, make video chats or re-share posts between media.

Another advantage of the convergence, according to Facebook, is that users with Instagram accounts can find people on Messenger or send them message requests, enabling the selection of whom users want to keep in touch with.

To complete the operation, synchronizing Instagram and Facebook profiles with Messenger is required.

At the time of the announcement, Facebook said it wanted to offer a new experience for its Instagram users who, according to the company, were sending over 100 billion messages daily and who were increasingly communicating indoors – due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
