RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In true Mexican narco style, a gang of criminals in Brazil filmed the murder and dismemberment of a 21-year-old woman, identified as Gabriela Lima Santana. Gabriela was brutally murdered in a bathroom, and it was all filmed in an alleged retaliation against a rival gang, local media reported.
The young woman was reported missing on March 13, the day before her birthday, but is believed to have disappeared much earlier.
Her body was dumped in a drainage ditch on March 24, before it was found by municipal workers operating a mechanical excavator to remove garbage from the Capão da Canoa ravine in southern Brazil.
One of Gabriela’s arms allegedly flew off as the forklift attempted to remove a suitcase, in front of terrified employees, before it landed eerily in the water and floated to the surface of the city of Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul state.
The victim’s head, torso, legs, and severed arms were also recovered from the suitcase by forensic experts, according to news site Caboco. Also found inside the luggage were two kitchen knives and saws, believed to be the tools used to mutilate the 21-year-old, police said. The suitcase also included rocks in an attempt to sink her.
Her distinctive tattoos identified Gabriela, allegedly associated with a local gang, and her fingerprints.
The gruesome discovery led homicide division detectives to a new investigation into the shocking video they had received on March 1st, which showed a woman’s body being dismembered in a bathroom.
Disturbing images allegedly show a smiling killer mutilating a woman’s corpse while several garbage bags are strewn across the floor, apparently containing parts of Gabriela’s body.
While trying to determine their authenticity, the investigation led agents to an apartment in the Rio Branco neighborhood, where a suspect was arrested. Police believe the murder also occurred at the property, which reportedly had links to local criminal gangs.
A 49-year-old man, allegedly identified in the footage, and a 23-year-old man, who allegedly recorded the clip, have been arrested.
