RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The replacement had not been officially announced by the company, but the change in command is included in the company’s annual report for 2020.
“On February 19th, 2021, in an Extraordinary General Meeting, the company acknowledged the resignation of its CEO, Mr. David Vélez Osorno, according to the letter presented, and Mrs. Cristina Helena Zingaretti Junqueira took over as CEO with immediate effect from this date,” according to the document.
Nubank said that it has reorganized its structure in Brazil and that it is a logical step to organize governance and support the group’s international expansion.
With undergraduate and master’s degrees in engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP) and an MBA from Northwestern University (Kellogg School of Management), in theory, Cristina had no executive position in the institution. Still, in practice, she headed the areas of external affairs (marketing, communication, and government relations) and legal and facilities.
Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the bank reached the 35 million client mark in Brazil in March, a growth of more than 50% in the user base over the last 12 months.
