Uruguay registers new record number of active cases of Covid-19

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL –  Uruguay, a country of 3.4 million, reached a record number of active cases of Covid-19 with 23,488 people infected, almost 2,300 more than the previous day, when the country is going through the worst stage of the pandemic, according to the report of the National Emergency System (Sinae).

This Friday, 3,380 new cases were confirmed (including more than 1,500 delayed laboratory reports) and 32 deaths, bringing the total number of accumulated infections to 111,568, while deaths climbed to 1,410.

The health mnistry revealed this week in its latest Epidemiological report, with data up to March 30, that 41 percent of the confirmed cases of Covid-19 have no epidemiological link and that for weeks now, “there has been a sustained increase in the number of cases”.

The coordinator of the Honorary Scientific Advisory Group (GACH), which advises the government on the pandemic, Rafael Radi, warned on Tuesday that it is close to going through “saturation situations” in intensive care and that community transmission of the coronavirus “is very high”.
