“We are under the winds of democracy,” says Brazil’s STF Justice

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “There is not the slightest possibility of engaging the Armed Forces in an adventure. We are under the winds of democracy, and we will remain so,” Supreme Court (STF) Justice Marco Aurélio Mello, the “dean” of the court for having served longer than any other Justice, said today to Brazilian news magazine Veja.

For the dean of the STF, Jair Bolsonaro has “every right to reformulate” his ministries, but that the problem, many times, is the way these moves happen: “it generates a certain perplexity.”

“Nobody misses that period. I lived through it,” recalled the minister, about the 21-year military dictatorship Brazil underwent from 1964 to 1985.
