Covid-19: Brazil records 2,815 deaths and 90,570 new cases (March 19th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The number of deaths by covid-19 in Brazil rose to 290,314. In 24 hours, 2,815 deaths were registered. According to the figures published by the Ministry of Health, today (19) was the day on which the second-most deaths have been recorded since the start of the pandemic.

There are still 3,204 deaths under investigation by health teams. This is because there are cases in which the diagnosis about the cause only comes out after the patient’s death.

On Friday, the country registered 90,570 new cases of the new coronavirus. The update is based on information gathered by state and local health authorities about cases and deaths caused by covid-19.

The number of people recovered reached 10,383,460. The number of patients with active cases, being followed up by health teams, was 1,197,616.

States

The ranking of states with more deaths by covid-19 is led by São Paulo (66,798), Rio de Janeiro (34,830), Minas Gerais (21,540), Rio Grande do Sul (16,507), and Paraná (14,658). The states with fewer deaths are Acre (1,168), Amapá (1,216), Roraima (1,274), Tocantins (1,775), and Sergipe (3,234).

According to the Ministry of Health, covid-19 is present in 100% of Brazilian municipalities. However, more than half of the cities (4,177) have between 2 and 100 cases. In relation to deaths, 2,329 cities had new records, and 1,086 of them had only one confirmed death.
