RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s average oil production totaled 2.73 million barrels of oil per day (b/d) in February, a drop of 8% compared to the same month last year, according to data from the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), released on Wednesday, March 17th.
Combining oil and gas production, the country produced an average of 3.55 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE/d) in the second month of the year, down 6% compared to last year.
Petrobras’ oil production dropped 2.6% in February, compared to January. The reason for the drop is not readily clear. Of the total produced, a volume of 2.6 million BOE/d, or 73%, came from the deepwater pre-salt fields.
According to the regulatory agency, it was “the highest percentage of pre-salt share in national production ever recorded.” The Búzios and Tupi offshore fields, both in the Santos Basin, are the largest producers in Brazil.
