Covid-19: Brazil registers 1,760 deaths in 24 hours (March 5th) as deaths and cases continue to rise

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The country now registers 10,871,843 Covid-19 cases and 262,948 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the media outlet consortium. Cases and deaths are on an upward trend.

The media outlet consortium has released a new survey on the coronavirus pandemic situation in Brazil based on data from state health secretariats, as of Friday, March 5th, at 8 PM.

The country registered 1,760 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours – the second day of slight decline compared to the two records since the start of the pandemic, set on Tuesday and Wednesday – bringing the total to 262,948 deaths. As a result, the rolling average of deaths in Brazil over the past 7 days reached 1,423, which is still rising and setting a new record – it is the highest since the start of the pandemic. There was a 35% variation compared to the average of 14 days ago, suggesting an upward trend in deaths from the disease.

There have now been 44 consecutive days with the rolling average of deaths over the 1,000 mark, 8 days over 1,100, and for the sixth day the mark is over 1,200. Seven consecutive records have been set between Saturday and Friday.

In total confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic, 10,871,843 Brazilians have either been or are still infected with the novel coronavirus, with 75,337 of these confirmed on Friday. The rolling average over the past 7 days stood at 59,150 new daily infections – the highest figure recorded since the start of the pandemic. This represents a 27% variation compared to cases recorded in two weeks, suggesting an upward trend in infections too.

Vaccination

The report of the Covid-19 vaccination on Friday, March 5th, points out that 7,941,173 people have already had their first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine. The figure represents 3.75% of the Brazilian population.

The second dose has already been administered to 2,611,071 people (1.23% of the country’s population) in all states and in the Federal District. In total, 10,552,244 doses have been administered nationwide.
