CNT Poll: Bolsonaro approval rating falls to 32.9%; disapproval up to 35.5%

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s conservative government under President Bolsonaro saw its approval rating slump to 32.9% in February, from 41.2% in October, according to a poll by transport confederation CNT disclosed on Monday, February 22th. In the poll the government’s disapproval rating rose from 27% to 35%, higher than the approval rate for the first time since May 2020.

Bolsonaro’s personal approval/disapproval rate, which is different from that of his administration, also reversed their positions. Last October, 52% approved of him and 43% disapproved. In February, 51% disapproved and only 43% approved.

The poll was conducted between Thursday and Saturday last week and would thus partially include reaction to Bolsonaro’s Friday decision to install a retired general with no oil and gas experience as chief executive of state oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA.
