Among the news are the stepping up of the fight against violence toward women, with the implementation of the Plan to Fight Feminicide, planned for early March. According to Damares Alves, last year alone, the “Ligue 180” hotline registered a 39% increase in the number of reports of violence against women.

According to the Minister, part of the fight against domestic violence is also expanding the network of Casas da Mulher Brasileira, a place that offers several protection services such as police stations, psychologists, and shelter for victims of violence. According to Damares, Brazil currently has only seven such places, and the goal is to create 27 new centers this year. The Minister appealed to women victims of violence: “Reach out to us. We will come to you.”

Damares Alves also made an assessment of the actions developed by the Ministry in recent months, particularly during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The government delivered food baskets and hygiene kits to indigenous people, quilombolas and traditional communities. The goal was to prevent these peoples from leaving isolation. “Our Ministry directly distributed around 450,000 basic food baskets, benefiting countless indigenous families.”

Another measure was the establishment in 2020 of new denunciation channels such as WhatsApp (061- 99656-5008), Telegram (type Direitoshumanosbrasilbot) and an app that works with video calls from anywhere in the world.
