Brazil exceeds 10 million Covid-19 cases, with 1,432 deaths in past 24 hours (February 18th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The country has registered 10,028,644 infections and 243,610 Covid-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the media consortium. The rolling average of deaths per day has remained above the 1,000 mark for 29 days.

The media outlet consortium released a new survey on the coronavirus pandemic situation in Brazil based on data from state health secretariats, updated at 8 PM on Thursday, February 18th.

The country registered 1,432 deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, reaching a total of 243,610 fatalities since the start of the pandemic. It is the fifth highest death toll in 24 hours recorded to date. This brings the rolling average of deaths in Brazil in the past 7 days to 1,030, remaining above the 1,000 mark for 29 days now. There was a -2% variation compared to the average of 14 days ago, suggesting a stable trend in deaths from the disease.

In terms of confirmed cases, 10,028,644 Brazilians have been or are infected with the novel coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, with 49,368 of these confirmed in the past day. The rolling average over the past 7 days stood at 44,621 new daily diagnoses. This represents a -5% variation compared to cases reported over two weeks, suggesting a stable trend in diagnoses.

Eleven states are reporting an increase in deaths, eleven are stable and four are falling.

Increasing (11 states): RS, GO, AC, AP, PA, RO, RR, BA, PB, PE and RN
Stable (11 states and the Federal District): PR, SC, ES, MG, SP, DF, MS, MT, AL, CE, MA and PI
Dropping (4 states): RJ, AM, TO and SE

The Covid-19 vaccination balance on Thursday, February 18th, shows that 5,558,105 people have already been administered the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, according to data released at 8 PM. The figure represents 2.62% of the Brazilian population.

The second dose has already been administered to 837,094 people (0.40% of the country’s population). In total, 6,395,199 doses have been administered nationwide.
