Authorities Close Party with 600 People in Foz do Iguaçu

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Health inspection agents on Sunday, December 20th, closed a party in the municipality of Foz do Iguaçu in the Brazilian state of Paraná where at least 600 people gathered in violation of official regulations against large events, local authorities reported.

According to the authorities, health agents and local police raided the farm where the party was taking place at dawn on Sunday.

“We have closed nine places where there were parties during the early morning hours, but the most serious event was when there were many parked cars on a farm and we found 600 people,” said the mayor’s health inspection coordinator of Foz do Iguacu, Andre Guedes, who added that the farm’s owner will be prosecuted for violating the curfew.

Sunday’s incident came after a magistrate in the state of Rio Grande do Norte authorized the holding of a festival between December 27th and January 2nd, 2021, where all attending the festival must present negative COVID-19 tests along with entrance tickets.

In major Brazilian cities including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, public celebrations for the season have been suspended due to the pandemic.
