Brazil Passes 170,000 Covid-19 Deaths Since Start of Pandemic (November 24th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has exceeded 170,000 deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic. In the past 24 hours, 630 deaths were recorded, raising the figure to 170,115. There are a further 2,202 deaths under investigation, according to Monday’s data, November 23rd.

The report was released by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday night. The body discloses an update each day based on information provided by the state Health Secretariats.

The pandemic has also caused the infection of 6,118,708 people in Brazil since the first case in February. Between Monday and Tuesday, the health authorities reported 31,100 new positive diagnoses. On Monday, the system marked 6,087,608 cumulative cases.

Still according to the Ministry’s balance, there are 472,575 patients under follow-up. Another 5,476,018 people have already recovered from the disease.

In general, case figures are lower on Sundays and Mondays due to data feeding challenges from state Health Secretariats. On Tuesdays, they may rise further due to the backlog of updated records.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths by Covid-19 are São Paulo (41,455), Rio de Janeiro (22,141), Minas Gerais (9,804), Ceará (9,492-Monday’s number), and Pernambuco (8,951).

The states with the lowest number of deaths from the disease are Acre (715), Roraima (721), Amapá (795), Tocantins (1,151), and Rondônia (1,529).
