Brazil Reports Further 13,000 Covid-19 Cases; Deaths Exceed 166,000 (November 16th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Health authorities in Brazil have recorded 166,014 deaths related to Covid-19 infection since the start of the pandemic in the country. The number of infections is over 5.8 million, making it the country in the world with the third-most confirmed positive cases.

On Monday, November 16th, 13,371 additional coronavirus infections were reported in Brazil, a lower figure than in the day before (14,134). However, it should be noted that Sunday and Monday may present lower records due to underreporting, which is common over the weekend due to the operation of laboratories and regional Health Secretariats.

The total number of confirmed cases in the country since February 26th now stands at 5,876,464, according to the Ministry of Health’s website. Brazil is the country in the world with the third-highest number of confirmed cases, being topped by the United States and India.

With respect to the number of deaths, another 216 fatalities have been confirmed in the past 24 hours, when 140 were reported the previous day. The cumulative total stands at 166,014.

Among the confirmed cases, 5,322,406 have recovered from the disease, while 388,044 remain under medical follow-up.
