Woman Jumps Off Moving Car to Escape Harassment in Santa Catarina State

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A CCTV camera in downtown Videira, in western Santa Catarina, recorded the moment a woman jumped out of a moving car. According to the police, her risky behavior was an attempt to escape from harassment by the driver.

The case occurred on Wednesday, November 4th, and was registered with the Civil Police on Thursday. The Police Precinct for the Protection of Children, Adolescents, Women, and the Elderly (DPCAMI) is investigating the case. It has not been specified if the vehicle’s driver and the victim know each other.

The camera caught the moment when the car door is opened and the woman hurls herself from the moving vehicle near an intersection. She falls in the middle of the road and sits for a few seconds.

The car coming immediately behind on the street slows down and stops. The woman gets up by herself and walks away. The Ford Focus, from where the woman jumped, drove off with no assistance provided to the woman and out of the camera angle.

The woman is expected to testify at the DPCAMI next week. Up to Saturday, November 7th, neither the driver nor the car had been located by the police.
