RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Like other countries that import pork and by-products from Germany, Brazil has suspended purchases of fresh and processed pork from the European country. The news was confirmed on Monday, September 14th, by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture.
The decision comes after the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reported last week an outbreak of African swine fever in a wild boar found near the border between Germany and Poland.
China, Japan, South Korea and Argentina have also announced embargoes on the marketing of the German product.
In a note, the Ministry of Agriculture reported that it has sent a communication to the German health authorities requesting detailed information about biosafety measures implemented by the country’s industrial meat processing plants.
