Covid-19: Brazil Reports 1,200 New Deaths and 42,600 New Cases (September 1st)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the past 24 hours, 1,215 deaths were recorded due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the total number of deaths by Covid-19 has reached 122,596.

The result represents an increase of one percent over Tuesday when the Ministry of Health’s panel recorded 121,381 deaths.

There are a total of 2,690 deaths under investigation. The data are included in the Ministry of Health’s daily update released on Tuesday evening, September 1st.

In terms of number of cases, São Paulo is also the leader (814,375), followed by Bahia (259,418), Rio de Janeiro (226,800), Minas Gerais (218,781), and Ceará (216,333).

According to the portfolio’s balance, between Monday and Tuesday, the state Health Secretariats identified 42,659 new infections. As a result, the total of cumulative cases reached 3,950,931.

The result shows an increase of one percent over the number released on Monday when the Ministry’s system recorded 3,908,272 infections since the start of the pandemic.

Case figures are lower on Sundays and Mondays due to the challenge in feeding the database by the Health Secretariat’s teams. On Tuesdays, the figure is usually higher due to the sending of data accumulated over the weekend.

According to the Ministry of Health’s bulletin, 669,239 people are in follow-up and another 3,159,096 have already recovered.

The lethality rate (number of deaths by the total of cases) stood at 3.1 percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 58.3. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1880.1.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths were São Paulo (30,375), Rio de Janeiro (16,217), Ceará (8,447), Pernambuco (7,614), and Pará (6,176).

The states with fewest deaths to date are Roraima (593), Acre (616), Tocantins (687), Amapá (663), and Mato Grosso do Sul (889).

In terms of number of cases, São Paulo is also the leader (814,375), followed by Bahia (259,418), Rio de Janeiro (226,800), Minas Gerais (218,781), and Ceará (216,333).

The unfortunate highlight is Minas Gerais, which until last week was ranked 5th in the number of cases, but has now overtaken Ceará.
