Covid-19: Brazil Records 106,523 Deaths and 3.27 Million Cases (August 14th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has reached 106,523 deaths by Covid-19, according to an update from the Ministry of Health released on Friday, August 14th. Over the past 24 hours, 1,060 new deaths were reported by the state health departments. On Thursday, August 13th, the official system had recorded 105,463 deaths as a result of the pandemic.

The cumulative total of cases stood at 3,275,520. Between Thursday and Friday, 50,644 new infections were reported. On Thursday, the Ministry of Health’s system counted 3,224,876 people with Covid-19.

According to the portfolio’s daily update, the lethality of the disease (deaths among those infected) amounted to 3.3 percent. The mortality rate (deaths per 100,000 population) stood at 50.7 and the incidence (cases of Covid-19 per 1,000,000 people) reached 1558.7.

The data also show that 784,695 patients are currently under follow-up. A further 2,384,302 have already recovered.

In terms of geographical distribution of deaths, the regional ranking is led by the Southeast (47,912), followed by the Northeast (31,896), North (12,933), Midwest (7,097), and South (6,985).

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (26,613), Rio de Janeiro (14,507), Ceará (8,123), Pernambuco (7,111), and Pará (5,924).
