Brazil Counts 2.7 Million Cases and 93,600 Deaths by Covid-19 (August 1st)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Since the start of the pandemic, Brazil has registered 2.7 million people infected by Covid-19, according to a report released on Saturday, August 1st, by the Ministry of Health.

The figure is 45,400 higher than that released in the preceding survey. The updated number of recovered individuals is 1.86 million. There are still 748,59 thousand patients under follow-up.

The novel coronavirus has claimed the lives of 93,570 people in Brazil since the start of the pandemic. According to the balance, 1,088 more deaths were recorded between Friday and Saturday.

The lethality rate (number of deaths by the total of cases) stands at 3.5 percent; and the mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) at 44.5.

States

São Paulo continues to be the state with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths, with 23,236 fatalities. In second place is Rio de Janeiro with 13,556 deaths. Ceará (7,698) comes third, followed by Pernambuco (6,597) and Pará (5,750).

São Paulo also leads in the total of diagnosed cases, with 552,318 people testing positive for the disease. In second place is Ceará, with 175,928 positive diagnoses; Bahia (168,926) and Rio de Janeiro (167,213) come third and fourth.
