Home Office Work during Pandemic Breaks Myth of Productivity Loss

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The executives’ perception of the first three months of home office is that this time has helped to dispel the myth of a loss of commitment to work, once thought to be caused by the decentralization of working away from the office. Thus, the “new reality” is expected to change corporate relations from now on.

According to the survey, 71 percent of executives perceive performance at home to be equal or better than at the office.

One of the consequences should be the maintenance of the home office. Joint research conducted by FIA (Administration Institute Foundation) and FEA-USP (School of Economics, Business and Accounting of the University of São Paulo) shows that 70 percent of Brazilian executives feel motivated to continue working from their homes after the end of the period of compulsory isolation.

The president of Trevisan Business School, VanDyck Silveira, is one of them. A former critic of the model, from the days when he was number two in the Duke Corporate Education structure in London, he’s now a convert.

“The home office never worked and what I noticed was that executives used their working day at home to do other things. Now, in these three months, my perception has changed and I’m now a new believer in the home office,” he says. He is considering keeping the teleworking for some of his over 300 employees in the future. “We’ve never had as many deliveries as now.”

According to the survey, 71 percent of executives perceive performance at home to be equal to or better than at the office. “The productivity results are high,” says André Fischer, in charge of the research.
