The other four countries with the most deaths are the United States (102,000), the United Kingdom (38,200), Italy (33,200), and France (28,700).

There were also 26,928 new infections recorded in Brazil in one day, a record, according to data from the Ministry of Health. The current total is 465,166.

In terms of the number of cases, Brazil is the second most affected country, according to Johns Hopkins University (USA). In absolute numbers, it is second only to the United States, with 1.7 million cases.

However, the Ministry of Health concedes that the actual number of cases in Brazil tends to be higher since there are still tests pending results in some places and the possibility of underreporting.
