Covid-19: Brazil Records 965 Deaths in 24 Hours (May 23rd)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil recorded 965 new deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours, now totaling 22,013, according to the Ministry of Health’s daily report. The mortality rate (total deaths by the number of confirmed cases) of the disease in the country stands at 6.3 percent.

Brazil recorded 16,508 new confirmed cases and reached a total of 347,398. From the total number of confirmed cases, 182,798 are under follow-up (52.6 percent) and 142,587 have recovered (41 percent). There are still 3,534 deaths under investigation.

São Paulo remains the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, concentrating the highest number of deaths (6,045). There are 80,558 confirmed cases in the State.

The State is followed by Ceará (2,308 deaths and 35,122 cases), Rio de Janeiro (3,905 deaths and 34,533 cases), Amazonas (1,744 deaths and 28,802 cases), Pernambuco (2,144 deaths and 26,786 cases) and Pará (2,001 deaths and 22,697 cases).
