Germany Claims Pandemic Is Under Control

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – German Health Minister Jens Spahn said yesterday, April 17th, that the Covid-19 pandemic is currently “under control” in the country and that the number of contagions has decreased significantly.

“We can say that we have managed to switch from dynamic growth [of the number of contagions] to linear, since the rate of infection has dropped,” he explained. He said Germany has tested 1.7 million people so far.

Globally, the disease has caused over 145,000 deaths and infected more than 2.1 million people in 193 countries and territories. More than 465,000 patients have been considered cured.

The disease is passed on through a novel coronavirus detected in December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

To fight the coronavirus, governments have decreed isolation, closed non-essential trade and drastically reduced air traffic, paralyzing sectors of the world economy.

As a result of a decrease in new patients in intensive care and infections, a number of countries have begun to develop plans to reduce containment and in some cases, such as Denmark, Austria, and Spain, to reduce some of these measures.
