Luxury Cruise Ships Call for Humanitarian Aid Permission to Dock in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Two luxury cruise ships requested humanitarian aid from Brazil because of the coronavirus pandemic and were granted permission to dock in Rio de Janeiro.

There are no reports of any sick people on board the cruise ships.

The ships are carrying over 500 people. According to reports provided to Brazil’s Health Agency ANVISA, the ships have been sailing for over ten days non-stop and there are elderly people on board. The cruise ships are the L’ Austral, which is carrying 252 people (190 guests), and the Le Boreal, with 324 people (124 guests).

ANVISA’s authorization was granted on the condition that passengers land and are taken directly to a bus and then flown back to their countries of origin.

One of the ships docked on Sunday, March 22nd and the other will dock on Wednesday, March 25th.
