RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The governor of Santa Catarina, Carlos Moisés (PSL), declared a state of emergency and decreed the closure of shopping malls, stores, gyms and public transports (including interstate). The decree became effective on Wednesday, March 18th, initially for seven days.
Drugstores, supermarkets, funeral services, gas and water distribution stations should continue to meet the demand of Santa Catarina citizens, as well as the health services.
Rio Grande do Sul has not yet taken steps in this direction at the state level, but the City of Porto Alegre has decreed a 30-day state of emergency, also with the closure of shopping malls and gyms as of Thursday, March 19th. Exceptions are drugstores, health clinics, supermarkets, restaurants and food outlets located in these shopping malls.
