Marielle Franco’s Story Told in Fiction and Documentary Series

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A fiction series on the story of Marielle Franco, a city councilor from Rio de Janeiro, was announced by Globoplay on Friday, March 6th.

She was shot dead on March 14th, 2018 in downtown Rio. Her driver, Anderson Pedro Gomes, was also killed.

Director José Padilha (” Elite Squad”) and screenwriters George Moura (“Land of the Strong”) and Antonia Pellegrino (“Tim Maia”) are involved in the project. The series is in its pre-production stage and is yet to be named and given a premiere date.

On this same Friday, a documentary series about Marielle was also announced. The first episode will be broadcast on March 12th at Globo, after ‘BBB20’.

The series marks the start of Globo Journalism’s documentary series production for Globoplay.
