RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The announcement was made by David Zigdon, CEO of the Galilee Research Institute (Migal), located in Galilee, Israel. Zigdon held a press conference on Thursday, February 27th, along with his team, to announce progress in the research.
According to the scientist, the team has been working tirelessly on the development of a vaccine against the coronavirus. Preliminary tests in birds have proved its efficacy and the team is now looking for adaptations that will enable immunization in humans.
“We are working to get an effective vaccine [for humans] against COVID-19 in eight to ten weeks, and to move to testing in humans in 90 days,” Zigdon said. The researcher added that both the vaccine for birds and for humans must be administered orally.
The team working on the project is specialized in biotechnology, environment, and agriculture. The initiative earned public praise from Israeli Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis. “I hope and pray for progress soon,” he said.
