Rio Airport Welcomes Tourists with Carnaval Costume Exhibition

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Tourists landing in Rio de Janeiro at the Tom Jobim International Airport – Rio Galeão will be welcomed by an exhibition featuring 20 costumes and props from the Rio de Janeiro Carnaval Special Group samba schools that paraded last year.

The goal is to get passengers into the party mood as soon as they reach the terminal. The exhibition will remain on display in the airport’s international landing hall from yesterday, February 17th until March 2nd.

The exhibition is curated by Célia Domingues, president of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Brazil (AMEBRAS), an organization dedicated to the training of people in various professional areas linked to Carnaval and integration into the labor market.

Since 2007, the AMEBRAS has operated the Professional Training Center Armazém do Samba, located in Barracão Cultural, in the Cidade do Samba (City of Samba), central region of Rio de Janeiro, in an area provided by the Independent League of Samba Schools of Rio de Janeiro (LIESA).

From February 21st to 27th, Rio Galeão expects to handle some 260,000 travelers, of which 160,000 are domestic and 100,000 are international passengers.

The busiest days are expected to be Friday, February 21st, with a total of 42,900 passengers, and Ash Wednesday, February 26th, when 42,800 passengers are expected to transit through Rio’s only international air terminal.
