European Architecture with Triptyque’s Brazilian Tropicalism Innovates Worldwide

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – When talking about contemporary and sustainable architecture, you cannot fail to mention the talented and renowned Franco-Brazilian office of Triptyque Architecture.

Founded by Grégory Bousquet, Carolina Bueno, Guillaume Sibaud and Olivier Raffaelli in 2000 in Brazil, and 2008 in Paris, Triptyque is a world-renowned business. Its projects solidify the firm’s objective of contributing to the development of urban areas with exclusive and sustainable architecture.

According to the founding partner of Triptyque Architecture, Greg Bousquet, one of Triptyque’s peculiarities is that it is a multicultural office. “We arrived as Europeans and started to embrace and love Brazilian culture. Then we started to change a little our perception of architecture”.

It all started in Rio de Janeiro and the city was responsible for giving them an understanding of Rio’s geography. “We understood the weight of nature and brought it to architecture”.

According to the architect, concepts called “bigger” also go hand in hand with Triptyque’s mission to build in a sustainable, innovative and unique way. “Integrating nature into the vocabulary of architecture no longer as an ornament or a landscape. We always try to have the thought, for example, of how the mineral and the vegetable [kingdoms] can live together”.

Proof of this is in the numerous buildings that have already won recognition around the world and received globally recognized awards.

Among them are classics such as: Fidalga, a vertical house in the São Paulo neighborhood of Vila Madalena, and Colombia, a building located in an old neighborhood of São Paulo with the figure of brise-soleil as the highlight; AMATA, also in São Paulo, which was built entirely of certified wood and demonstrates the application of the naturalization of architecture, as well as providing a total sensory experience; not to mention ECOTONE in France, one of the largest wooden buildings in Europe, which gained the office the “Inventons la Métropole” title, the largest international planning and urbanism competition in Europe; among many others.

Among its awards are the recognition of the New Albums of Young Architects (NAJA) by the French Ministry of Culture; and their selection by the largest international architecture agencies, an initiative of the Italian Association of Architecture and Critics (AIAC) that aims to honor non-conventional agencies for the boldness of their projects.

Now the exclusive earchitectural brand of Triptyque is coming to Curitiba. The French-Brazilian office has signed a partnership with the real estate developer AG7 for the construction of their new luxury development AGE 360, located in Ecoville, which will be launched in the first quarter of 2020.

According to the creative director of Triptyque Architecture, João Vieira Costa, AGE 360 is one of the projects that best embodies what the office believes in. “A process that is based on three fundamental pillars: the first collaboration, in that it is a four-handed consequence and never the imagination of a single architect; the second, innovation, the project has several points that are really new; and the third is sustainability as an intelligent posture in the conduct of the process.

“AGE 360 is a reference project for the future because it is a timeless project; it was thought to serve several purposes. I think that the AGE 360 posture has tried to be as strict as possible to be a project that is sustainable and that is continuous for a long time”.

The building is inspired by the skyscrapers of New York, London and the United Arab Emirates; it will have 33 apartments, ranging from 200 to 560m² and a 360 degrees view of Curitiba, being one of the 20 tallest buildings in Brazil. “AGE 360 is a product that could very well be built in Europe or in the USA, but that arrives in Curitiba,” says Triptyque’s founding partner, Greg Bousquet.

The residential building will still be one of the first in the world to have the FitWel certification, developed by health and design experts from the U.S. government, who used more than 3,000 scientific studies in search of strategies directed to the construction of ‘healthier’ buildings that allow a better quality of life for its residents and users.

According to the physician and executive partner of AG7 Realty, Dr. Andressa Gulin, one of the first doctors in Latin America to receive the Fitwel Ambassador certification and who participated in the formation of the project, the environment where we live is the main factor that influences the health of a human being. “It is time to treat our homes as an investment in our quality of life, and not just as a material or financial investment,” she explains. The site has more about the developer’s new venture.
