RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Three hooded men who claim to be from the “Nationalist Popular Insurgency Fundamentalist Command of the Brazilian Family” recorded a video, which began to be posted on social media on Wednesday, December 25th, claiming responsibility for the bomb attack against the ‘Porta dos Fundos’ production company in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.
Hooded and with their voices distorted, the three men are displayed in front of a flag of fundamentalism – the Brazilian side of fascism – and behind a table covered with the flag of the Brazilian empire.
They claim that they committed the attack to “do justice to the desires of all Brazilian people against the blasphemous, bourgeois and unpatriotic attitude that the group of ‘Porta dos Fundos’ militant Marxists took when producing the Christmas Special at the behest of the billionaire mega-corporation Netflix.
According to the trio, the aim of the humor group is “to destroy our people, our belief, our immaterial heritage with the intention of weakening us, dividing us and turning us against each other and plundering our riches”.
“Bourgeois, cowardly and corrupt justice, sold to large capital, is fighting against the people, but when the Fundamentalist Revolution comes, everyone will be doomed to revolutionary justice. We fundamentalists will not neglect our historical role and will be the Sword of God. This is a revolution of the spirit, Brazil is Christian and will never cease to be,” they say.
Attack
On Tuesday, December 24th, two Molotov cocktails were launched inside the building of the production company of the comedy group ‘Porta dos Fundos’, in the Humaitá neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro. The bombs set off massive flames, and if it were not for a security guard at the site who contained the flames, the building would most likely have burned down.
“They will not shut us up! Never! We have to be vigilant and strong…”, said actor Fábio Porchat, one of the members of the ‘Porta dos Fundos’, right after the attack.
Footage from CCTV cameras shows that at least three people were involved in the attack. Police are still trying to locate the suspects.
Christmas Special
The attack on the ‘Porta dos Fundos’ producer took place in the midst of the outrage sparked by the group’s Christmas special, launched earlier this month and available on Netflix.
Bolsonarists and religious fundamentalists began to promote virtual attacks on members of the humorous group due to the fact that the Christmas special portrays, with irony, a homosexual Jesus Christ.
The production has even been the target of petitions and legal actions.
Last Friday, December 20th, a judge rejected a request for the Christmas Special to be taken off the air. “It would have been censorship, unequivocally,” said the magistrate.
