“Let’s Make Congonhas Airport International,” Says São Paulo Governor

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, said on Monday, December 16th, during the inauguration of the executive airport São Paulo Catarina Airport (SPCA), that the government intends to internationalize Congonhas Airport, located in the southern zone of the capital.

Doria said he had discussed the issue last Friday, 13th, with the Ministers of Economy and Infrastructure. “I spoke with Tarcísio (Gomes) with Paulo Guedes on Friday, we will internationalize Congonhas”.

The governor, however, failed to give further details on the matter.

Doria also emphasized the numbers of civil aviation in the state following the government measure reducing the rate of ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services) on aviation kerosene from 25 to 12 percent.

According to him, São Paulo received 706 new weekly flight routes, above the 450 promised in July by airlines to offset the grant.

“A quarter of the tax almost made these operations unfeasible, and those who fly know that 60 percent of operational costs come from fuel. This was achieved thanks to negotiations with national and international companies,” he said.
