Left-wing Political Parties Seek Alliance for 2020 Elections in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Seeking a major left-wing alliance in Rio de Janeiro for the 2020 elections, the PCB, PCdoB, PDT, and PSB parties are organizing for next Friday, November 8th, a seminar entitled “A Program for Rio – Democracy, City and Development”. The event will be held at the headquarters of Sindipetro-RJ, in the city center, starting at 2 PM.

According to the leftist parties, the city of Rio de Janeiro is neglected, in need of planning, and, mainly, of public policies that incentive education, health, and safety areas.

Through this seminar – the first of many to take place – leftist politicians will discuss the ways in which they can join forces to dispute and win the elections in Rio de Janeiro. A common project, capable of suggesting changes in the direction of the administration of the capital city of Rio de Janeiro, is a priority at this time.

Throughout the day, politicians, teachers, leaders, and intellectuals will discuss initiatives and projects for the construction of a fairer and more egalitarian city. In all, there will be four round tables. The first, named “Opening Table”, will start at 2 PM and will be attended by party leaders. Raphael de Carvalho, from the João Mangabeira Foundation, of the PSB, will be the mediator.

Afterwards, at 3 PM, federal deputy Alessandro Molon (PSB) will be alongside state deputy Martha Rocha (PDT) and former Minister of Labor Brizola Neto (PCdoB) to discuss “Democracy and Development for Rio”. The other round tables, scheduled for 4 and 6 PM, will feature issues such as public safety, and education, respectively. Tainá de Paula, Lia Faria, Eurico de L. Figueiredo, Everton Gomes, and Marcos Andrade will also de present.
