RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro, who has an agenda in Japan for Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement ceremony, once again advocated the exploitation of the Amazon.
According to Bolsonaro on Monday, “the Amazon is open and must be exploited.”
In a conversation with journalists, the president was asked if the forest would be considered in the bilateral talks in the Asian country.
“The Amazon is of interest to the whole world, it is open. It must be exploited, the Amazon is ours, I won’t give it up. There are more than 20 million people who cannot be treated as some countries in the world wish,” said Bolsonaro, while not specifying the nations he meant.
When asked about the relationship between Brasília and Tokyo, Bolsonaro again mentioned Amazon exploitation.
“Brazil has great potential. We have our Amazon, we have to exploit it rationally, free trade, restore confidence. Many Japanese investors have lost fortunes with the PT government through thievery, corruption, and our job is to restore that trust,” said the president.
