RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Otto Baum Nascimento, a one year and three months old boy, died from an attack by a rottweiler on Tuesday, October 8th, in Sapiranga, in the region of Vale dos Sinos, in Rio Grande do Sul.
According to the Civil Police, the child was at his grandmother’s house when the dog escaped from its kennel and attacked him.
“The boy was with his grandmother, in the house courtyard, when the dog suddenly escaped from the kennel and attacked him. In an attempt to protect his grandson, the grandmother also sustained several injuries,” said Deputy Clovis da Silva.
The boy was rushed by the agents of the Mobile Emergency Service (SAMU) to the Sapiranga Hospital but did not survive the severe injuries to the face, neck, chest and waist area.
The Civil Police of the municipality will investigate the circumstances of the event.
Otto’s wake was held on Wednesday morning, October 9th, in Novo Hamburgo. The funeral was held later in the morning at the Jardim da Memória Cemetery.
