Young Man Killed Defending Aunt from Husband’s Assault in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death during a fight in the Santa Eugênia neighborhood in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro. Mateus da Silva Oliveira was trying to rescue his aunt who was being beaten, and was himself stabbed by the victim’s husband, Cláudio Ricardo Zilio Rangel, 43 years old.

According to information from the newspaper ‘Extra’, the young man was rushed to the General Hospital of Nova Iguaçu but was dead on arrival.

The Homicide Precinct of the Baixada Fluminense (DHBF) was called in by the State Police to carry out an investigation at the crime scene. Claudio was arrested and taken to the hospital for medical care, as he was also injured.

On social media, Mateus’ friends published farewell messages and remembered moments with the young man.
