Corruption in Bolsonaro’s Campaign: Bogus Producer Received R$240,000

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Mosqueteiro Filme, a company that was in charge of producing videos and social media for Jair Bolsonaro’s presidential campaign, according to political party PSL, does not exist at the address provided by the party to the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE).

The property is in the city of Petrolina-PE, and according to Época magazine, the place has been closed for at least two years. According to the party’s accounts, the company received R$240,000, which is equivalent to 20 percent of the total spent on Bolsonaro to win the 2018 elections.

The figure is much lower than the normal market price for this type of activity. Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB), for instance, disbursed R$15 million, and Henrique Meirelles (MDB) invested R$10 million for the same type of service.

Mosqueteiro Filmes is registered in the names of the wife and son of Lucas Salles. The entrepreneur is connected to the vice-president of PSL, Julian Lemos, and maintains other activities related to advertising in João Pessoa.

One of his companies, Alfa9, received more than R$30 thousand from the Bolsonaro campaign.

According to the electoral law, reporting accounts from a company that is not the real service provider is a crime of electoral fraud, which carries a penalty up to five years’ imprisonment.
