Bus Accident Leaves 28 Injured in one of Rio’s Interstate Highways

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Twenty-eight people were injured in a bus accident earlier this morning, September 25th, on the Presidente Dutra Highway (BR-116), which links Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the bus, which transported employees of a multinational automobile manufacturer, was heading south towards São Paulo, when it drove off and fell into a stream near the 283-kilometer marker, in Barra Mansa, in the south of Rio de Janeiro State.

The bus rolled over leaving 28 of the 29 people in the vehicle injured. Among the victims, 11 were in serious condition and 17 had only minor injuries, according to the PRF.

The victims were taken to the hospital ‘Santa Casa de Misericórdia’ in Barra Mansa, to the Resende Emergency Hospital and to the UNIMED and Samer hospitals, in Resende.
